Ptolemy's models had many flaws. First of all the earth is the center of the universe(which we all know to be untrue). Secondly, the order of the planets is wrong.
Copernicus model was more accurate. Well actually, it was more less correct.

Keplers 3 laws explains how fast and the shape that the planets novel around the earth.

Law 3: K x A^3 = p^2. It basically discribes the relationship between the avarage distance of the sun and the orbiting planets
Newtons Explanation:
The explanation that Newton gave describes the motion of objects on Earth and the motion of planets in space. He believed that a moving body would change course or speed until an outside force acts upon it.
